Kowai Angus aims to consistently produce sires that will breed steers that are finished to market requirements by 18 months, and fertile heifers that will wean a good calf annually.
Kowai Angus Breeding Goals are:
- To use AI to access proven superior
meat/growth sires
- To continue to develop the maternal traits of our 230 registered breeding cows
- Calve at 2 years
- Maintain calving ease balanced with sufficient growth to process progeny at 18 months
- Carcase quality without excessive fat - we are concerned about trimmer gradings
- Ensure adequate milk
- Structural correctness and balance
- Moderate frame
- Maintaining bone - our experience is that light boned cattle don't perform in adverse conditions such as drought or cold winters
- Quiet temperament - all animals individually assessed
